Poll suggests drop in Bush's personal credibility

WASHINGTON, July 13 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush's personal credibility appears to be eroding at a time when Iraq has become the top public priority and the White House is engulfed in controversy over senior Bush adviser Karl Rove, a poll released on Wednesday suggested.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed the percentage of Americans who believe Bush is "honest and straightforward" fell to 41 percent from 50 percent in January, while those who say they doubt his veracity climbed to 45 percent from 36 percent.

The telephone survey, which was conducted July 8-11 and included responses from 1,009 adults, also showed that Iraq has replaced jobs as the leading issue among Americans.

With a 3.1 percent margin of error, polling data said 40 percent see Iraq as the top priority for the United States, against 34 percent who view jobs as their main concern. In January, jobs ranked highest among 46 percent to 39 percent for Iraq.

The new poll also showed Bush's overall job approval rating slipping to 46 percent from 47 percent in May, while his disapproval rating crept upward to 49 percent from 47 percent.

The White House this week has been reeling amid controversy over Rove, the top Bush political adviser who was named by a Time magazine reporter as one of the sources who identified CIA agent Valerie Plame to the media in 2003.

Democrats have called on Bush to fire Rove or block his access to classified information. But Bush, who originally pledged to dismiss anyone responsible for leaking Plame's identity, said he will withhold judgment on his deputy chief of staff for now.

This is both good AND bad. Its good because the American Public is FINALLY waking up to Bush's complete and total bullshit. It's bad because you know what happens when the people finally start to wake up to Bush's bullshit....we coincidentally either have another 'terror attack' or another war.

mark my words, I bet you any money that if Bush's numbers drop any lower, there will be either one or both of those things to remind us all how 'scared!!' we should be and how 'good of a job Bush is doing fighting the terrorists!'

You cant win for losing with these people.

Rev. Billy Graham's daughter accused of beating up husband

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The daughter of the world's most influential evangelist was arrested a week ago in the parking lot of a discount store, accused of domestic battery against her husband.

Virginia Graham Foreman, 59 -- Billy Graham's daughter -- spent a night in jail after New Smyrna Beach police said she physically abused her husband, Chad, on July 1 in the parking lot of the Kmart on State Road 44. She was released on her own recognizance the following day.

Witness David Hill of Edgewater told police that night that he and his wife, Mary, saw Virginia Foreman choke and push her husband. Then, after he walked away and hid behind a furniture truck, she followed in their gold Ford Mustang.

"She was mean," Hill said in an interview Thursday night. "I guess she started pushing him and grabbed him around his throat."

Hill said police had to chase Foreman in the store's parking lot to catch her. Police determined that choking and pushing her husband was domestic violence and placed Foreman under arrest, to her husband's disapproval.

Volusia County Judge Mary Jane Henderson, who presided over Foreman's first appearance hearing, said Chad Foreman told police that witnesses had "just misunderstood what was going on between them."

"He really tried to get the officer not to make an arrest," Henderson said.

Two other witnesses to the incident would not comment Thursday night, but police records show they described events unfolding similar to Hill's description.

At the police station, Foreman showed officers a bruise on her upper thigh that was "very dark in color." She was surprised at her arrest.

A man who answered Foreman's telephone hung up without comment.

Henderson said the situation was probably "very embarrassing" for the Foremans but didn't appear to be a serious case of spousal abuse.

"I will be surprised if this one gets prosecuted," Henderson said.

Not Enough Caskets for the Iraqi Dead

Coffin makers are unable to keep up with the demand for caskets in Iraq where tens of people die every day due to the continual armed attacks and bombings.

While casket prices increased due to the ever increasing demand, it is impossible to find caskets for the bodies of the poor and homeless. The price of a coffin varies from between $35 and $50 in Bagdat (Baghdad), in a city where one person dies every hour. Caskets have become a major necessity of the country due to the increasing number of deaths. Although around 10 or 15 caskets are constructed per day, they are still not able to supply enough caskets to keep up with demands, say coffin makers, one of them, Abbas Hussein said: "Not everyone in Baghdad has the money to buy a coffin. People have difficulty earning their living, how will they find money for a coffin? Poor people bury their relatives using the coffins that individuals have donated to the mosques."

A Swiss international studies group has claimed that 39,000 of the 100,000 civilian deaths that have occurred are the result of the bombings in Iraq.

Thought Toddler Gay, Dad Kills Son
Posted: July 14, 2005 12:01 am ET

(Tampa, Florida) A 21 year old Tampa man is charged with murder after his 3-year old son was pummeled into unconsciousness and then died.

Ronnie Paris Jr. went on trial for his own life this week in a Tampa courtroom. The toddler's mother, Nysheerah Paris, testified that her husband thought the boy might be gay and would force him to box.

Nysheerah Paris told the court that Paris would make the boy fight with him, slapping the child in the head until he cried or wet himself. She said that on one occasion Paris slammed the child against a wall because he was vomiting.

The court was told there had been a history of abuse by Paris. Prosecutor Jalal Harb said that in 2002, the Florida Department of Children & Families placed the child in protective custody after he had been admitted to the hospital several times for vomiting.

He was returned to his parents Dec. 14. A month later he went into a coma and was rushed to hospital. Six days later he was removed from life support and died. An autopsy showed there was swelling on both sides of his brain.

"He was trying to teach him how to fight,'' Nysheerah Paris' sister, Shanita Powell told the court. "He was concerned that the child might be gay.''

Following the child's death Tampa police Detective Anthony Zambito thought there was something suspicious. He testified that he questioned both parents closely at the hospital. But it wasn't until investigators questioned them separately Feb. 1 that the boy's mother talked about the abuse.

Paris was charged with capital murder and Nysheerah Paris was charged with felony child neglect and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
